Getting to the port and terminal at Kapellskär
The port of Kapellskär sits on Sweden's east coast, north-east of Stockholm. Set your sat nav to Kapellskär, 760 15 Gräddö. By car from Stockholm you follow the E18 towards Norrtälje and then the signs for "Hamn/Kapellskär". Parking at the terminal is handled by the port operator, Stockholms Hamnar.
Arriving without a car, SL bus routes 631 and 631X take you to the port. The terminal is staffed daily from 06:00 to 22:00.
Check-in and departure
Check-in opens 2 hours before departure and closes 1 hour before, so allow a decent buffer. With a vehicle you drive up to the check-in booths (sign C); foot passengers check in inside the terminal building (sign B) and are taken to the ship by shuttle bus.
Carry valid photo ID: on board you have to show your boarding card and be able to prove your identity if asked.
On board
The route is served by the modern Superstar ships Finnsirius and Finncanopus. On board there are several restaurants (à la carte, buffet, bistro and bar), a duty-free shop, the Premium Stellar Lounge, plus sauna, spa, jacuzzi and a gym; children have a Kids Corner. For the evening crossing a cabin makes sense - the choice runs from the economy cabin to the owner's suite, and accessible cabins and pet cabins can be booked as well.
On board you pay by card only, with no cash. Finnlines charges in euros, so you do not need Swedish kronor for the crossing. Alcohol brought from shore or bought in the on-board shop may not be drunk on board.
Vehicles, bikes and pets
Cars, motorcycles and bicycles are carried, and so are larger vehicles such as motorhomes; the details of the vehicle package are in the motorhome guide. Give the exact dimensions when you book and count in fittings such as roof boxes or bikes mounted on the car.
Pets are welcome: on the evening departures a pet cabin is required, while on the daytime sailings Kapellskär - Långnäs - Naantali it is not. A maximum of two animals travel per cabin, dogs have to be on the lead outside the cabin, and the car deck stays closed at sea. Arriving in Naantali and travelling on
In Naantali the ferry berths at Satamatie 9, in the greater Turku area on Finland's south-west coast. The terminal has paid parking (Aimo Park) and a small bike shelter.
Without your own vehicle, Föli bus route N14 brings you into the centre of Naantali in a few minutes; from there Föli routes 6 and 6A carry on to Turku. Turku is the starting point for the onward journey south towards Helsinki.
Tickets and fares
Finnlines sells the crossing on two fares: SPECIAL and STANDARD. The SPECIAL fare is cheaper but limited in number and only bookable while check-in has not yet opened; the STANDARD fare costs more but can be rebooked freely and stays available as long as there is space.
