Getting to the terminals in Stockholm
The two operators use different ports in Stockholm. Viking Line sails from the Stadsgården terminal (Tegelvikshamnen) close to Slussen, Tallink Silja Line from the Värtahamnen terminal north-east of the centre. Both are easy to reach by public transport, and connecting buses run to Värtahamnen from the City Terminal. By car you follow the signs in Stockholm towards Södra Länken and then to the relevant port. You can leave your vehicle in paid parking at the terminal while you are away.
Check-in and departure
Allow a decent buffer, and be at the terminal earlier with a vehicle than on foot. With Viking Line the self-service machines open about two hours before departure; check-in and boarding close 20 minutes before the ship leaves, and high vehicles over 2.40 m check in 45 minutes beforehand. With Tallink Silja Line vehicle check-in closes 30 minutes before departure and boarding for foot passengers 20 minutes before; being at the terminal about an hour ahead is recommended. Self-service and online check-in are free, while the staffed desk charges a fee. Carry valid photo ID - an identity card or passport is enough.
On board
The ships on the route are modern: Viking Glory (daytime) and Viking Grace (overnight) with Viking Line, and Baltic Princess with Tallink Silja Line. On board there are restaurants and cafés, an on-board shop with duty-free, and cabins in several categories. For the night crossing a cabin makes sense; during the day a seat in the lounges is enough. You pay on board by card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) or in cash: Viking Line takes euros and, on the Swedish routes, Swedish kronor as well, while with Tallink Silja Line you pay in euros on board. You do not need a Finnish or Swedish card for the crossing.
Vehicles, bikes and pets
Cars, motorhomes, caravans and motorcycles are carried; the standard car deck has a maximum height of 2.40 m. Give your vehicle's dimensions correctly when you book, because the fare depends on the length. Travelling by motorhome, you will find the details in the motorhome guide. Pets are welcome with both operators and have to be registered when you book; depending on the ship there are pet cabins, carriers or kennels. Arriving in Turku and travelling on
In Turku both operators berth right at the harbour (Satama); the address of the Viking Line terminal is Linja 1, 20100 Turku. Turku Satama station is only around 150 metres away, with trains to Helsinki and Tampere and buses into the city centre (route 1). Helsinki is about two hours away by train. With your own car you join the Finnish road network straight from the harbour.

The Stockholm - Turku route crosses the world-famous Archipelago Sea from Sweden to Finland in around 11 hours. It is served by Viking Line and Tallink Silja Line, which between them offer up to three departures a day, by day and overnight. Every ferry makes a short call in the Åland Islands: at Mariehamn during the day, and at Långnäs on the Viking Line night sailings.

When do the ferries leave Stockholm and Turku? +
Viking Line leaves Stockholm at around 07:45 in the morning and at 20:00 in the evening; from Turku the ferries go at about 08:45 and 20:55. Tallink Silja Line leaves Stockholm in the morning and reaches Turku in the evening, and in the other direction the ship sails from Turku in the evening.
