From Kapellskär to Finland and Åland

Kapellskär is the alternative to the terminals in central Stockholm if you are heading for south-west Finland or Åland. The ferries sail right through the Åland archipelago and dock near Turku. For Helsinki, though, you sail from Stockholm itself.

Kapellskär - Naantali

Finnlines sails twice a day from Kapellskär to Naantali. The route is served by Finnsirius and Finncanopus, with cabins, restaurants and a sauna. The crossing takes about eight to nine hours, and the ships call at Långnäs on Åland on the way. Naantali is in the Turku region on Finland's south-west coast. Everything about the route is on Kapellskär - Naantali.

Kapellskär - Långnäs

After about three and a half hours the ferries dock at Långnäs on Åland. If the islands are your destination, get off here: Mariehamn is about 30 kilometres away, roughly half an hour by car. Parking at the port is free. The other ferries to Åland are listed on Ferry to Åland.

From Kapellskär to Estonia

Kapellskär - Paldiski

DFDS links Kapellskär with Paldiski, west of Tallinn, with one sailing on almost every day of the week. The crossing takes about ten hours. For Finland it is a detour, but one you can combine with a tour of the Baltic states: from Tallinn you cross to Helsinki on Tallinn - Helsinki in about two hours.

Terminal & check-in

The address of the Finnlines terminal is Kapellskär, 760 15 Gräddö. It is open daily from 06:00 to 22:00, but is only staffed during check-in. Check-in opens two hours before departure and closes one hour before. At check-in you can pay by card only.

With a vehicle, follow sign C to the check-in lanes. On foot, follow sign B into the terminal, from where a bus takes you to the ship. The terminal has a waiting hall and a lift, and you can borrow a wheelchair. The DFDS ferries are reached via entrance A.

Getting there & parking

From Stockholm, take the E18 towards Norrtälje, then follow the signs for Hamn and Kapellskär. From Arlanda, Uppsala or Gävle, take road 77 to Norrtälje. Without a car, take SL bus routes 631 and 631X, which run from Stockholm via Norrtälje to the port.

The car park is at entrance B. The first hour is free with a parking disc; after that you pay by card, app or text message. You can leave your car there for a maximum of 14 days.

Onward travel from Naantali and Långnäs

In Naantali a shuttle bus takes foot passengers from the ship to the terminal. From there you are quickly in Turku, the starting point for onward travel towards Helsinki. In Långnäs you take the road to Mariehamn, Åland's only town, and on across the islands.
