Price comparison
Ferry to Finland: costs and prices
How to compare ferry prices to Finland on clear and consistent terms
- Compare prices on the same travel date, the same direction and the same vehicle size
- Cabin, passengers and fare conditions decide what you actually pay
Current prices by route
The cards show the lead-in fares available in the booking data for each route. Then choose your travel date, direction, passengers, vehicle and, where needed, a cabin - that gives you the price for your crossing.

How to compare ferry prices to Finland properly
Costs and what makes up the fare
What a ferry price has to include
A lead-in fare only compares when you know what it covers. For every enquiry you need at least:
- Direction and travel date: the outward and return legs can cost different amounts, and so can two days next to each other.
- Passengers: adults, children and age brackets are charged differently by each operator.
- Vehicle: length and height including trailer, roof box and bike rack decide the category.
- Cabin or seat: on long overnight crossings the accommodation is a major part of the fare; on short daytime sailings it often is not.
- Fare conditions: refunds and changes belong to the fare you choose and to where you book it.
The lead-in fares on the route cards are a starting point, not a personal quote.

Straight from Germany, or via Sweden and the Baltic states?
On the direct ferry Travemünde - Helsinki you pay for a long sea crossing, but you save the drive through Denmark and Sweden. The routes from Stockholm, Kapellskär and Umeå can work out differently on the ferry fare alone, but the drive, the fuel, the tolls and possibly an overnight stop belong in the total. Through the Baltic states, Tallinn - Helsinki is the short final leg, not the whole journey.
How to get a comparison that holds up
- Open two or three suitable route pages.
- Choose the same travel date and the same direction everywhere.
- Enter identical passengers and your exact vehicle dimensions.
- On overnight sailings, choose the same cabin category.
- Only then compare the total price, the change conditions and the cost of getting there.
Current departures are in the timetable. If you are travelling by motorhome, the guide Travelling to Finland by motorhome helps with the vehicle details.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ - the cost of the ferry to Finland
The key questions about what a fare covers and how to compare.
Which ferry to Finland is the cheapest? +
That can only be answered for a specific travel date and the same booking scope. A short crossing can come out lower on the ferry fare alone, but it brings a longer drive with it. So compare the route pages with the same direction, the same passengers, your exact vehicle and the cabin you need.
How can I save on the ferry to Finland? +
Compare several travel days and book early, especially when vehicle spaces or pet cabins are tight. Check the outward and return legs both together and separately. Discounts and change conditions only apply to the fare you are actually shown.
Does a larger vehicle cost more? +
Usually yes. What counts are the vehicle categories you are asked for when booking, above all the total length and height including any roof box, bike rack or trailer. For a motorhome, work with your exact measurements rather than a sample car fare.
